At the core of the English curriculum, students will study English literature and/or English language at key stage 3 & 4. Students will be assessed to ensure they are targeted with the right level of stretch and challenge for their ability.
We will have a multipronged approach to develop reading and writing skills for all students.
Through targeted subjects where teachers will extend the curriculum through a literacy focus in developing students’ writing stamina and extended writing skills.
In math’s, students will study the National Curriculum at all key stages. Students will be set by ability to ensure that all are targeted with the right level of stretch and challenge for their ability.
As well as literacy, numeracy will be a whole school focus that is the responsibility of all staff to deliver through their individual subjects.
At key stage 2 & 3, students will follow the National Curriculum for science which fully encompasses all core knowledge for biology, chemistry and physics. Students will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, make predictions, generate hypotheses, evaluate and analyse causes.
At key stage 4, students will study combined science worth 2 GCSEs as a minimum. Some students will have the opportunity to study triple science.
All students will take history and geography at key stage 2 & 3 as part of their broad and balanced curriculum. Both geography and history will incorporate the local community into its learning through trips and visits where possible. This will not only deepen the students’ understanding but will also build links within the community and build social capital within students.
In key stage 2 & 3, the National Curriculum for art and design will be followed. Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to invent and create works of art, craft and design. Students will gain an understanding of art history and eras of artistic development that will be used to inspire their own pieces of work and creations.
In key stage 4, art and design will be offered as a GCSE option.
